Frequently Asked Questions

What is counselling and psychotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy offer a private, confidential space to explore what is troubling you — whether that is emotional pain, difficult life circumstances, relationship struggles, or simply a sense that something needs to change. It is not advice-giving. It is a process of exploration, understanding, and gradual change, supported by a trained professional.

What is Single Session Therapy?

Single Session Therapy (SST) is an approach developed by Professor Windy Dryden that treats one session as complete and valuable in itself. It is not a shortened version of longer therapy — it has its own process and focus. We begin by identifying what matters most to you right now, and work purposefully within that. Research shows many people find a single session genuinely helpful. Further sessions are available if you wish, but there is no expectation to continue.

How is counselling different from talking to a friend?

The therapeutic relationship is something distinct. It is a dedicated space that belongs entirely to you, free from the dynamics and expectations of everyday relationships. I bring professional training, an ethical framework, and a consistent, non-judgmental presence — and everything you share stays within that space.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no fixed answer — it depends entirely on you and what you bring. Some people find one session is enough. Others work over a few months or longer. We check in as we go, and you are always free to end when you feel ready.

How confidential is the service?

Confidentiality is fundamental to the therapeutic relationship. Everything you share remains private and is handled in full compliance with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). I follow the ethical guidelines of both the IACP and the BACP. The only circumstances under which confidentiality might need to be reconsidered are where there is a serious and immediate risk of harm to yourself or others — and even then, I would always aim to discuss this with you first.

How much do sessions cost?

Sessions are €60, whether for ongoing therapy or a single session.

Is counselling covered by health insurance?

Some health insurance providers in Ireland offer partial cover for counselling — it is worth checking directly with your provider. Counselling is not currently covered by medical cards.

How do online sessions work?

We meet via secure video call. I will send you a link ahead of our session. All you need is a stable internet connection and a private, quiet space. Online therapy can be just as effective as in-person work, and it is accessible from anywhere in the world.

Can we work in Italian?

Yes. I offer sessions in both English and Italian. You are welcome to choose whichever feels most natural — or to move between them if that is helpful.
